I'm in the same boat. If you know the codes, it can be a lot cheaper to import from the UK.
For example, I need parts, value of 38pounds or locally for $170...
Even with the shipping, it's about, 30% cheaper for me to import...
Any recommendations for genuine spare parts (VW T5 van) in Sydney?
I've used a couple dealers and their prices have varied by up to 50%!

I can get genuine parts at a very good price give me a call 0414579538.
i mainly use the guys at Frys spares in crows nest, awesome service and for a few bucks extra the parts get delivered the same day. No one else i rang had a rear gearbox mount for a T4 in stock it was ordered, sent and received the same day
@southernxmx - I used to use Frys in the "good ol' days". Tooleys can be a good third party supplier too.
I've been buying at "trade" price but even then prices vary between dealers.
VW UK consistently beat the local VW parts counter for price - and that includes VAT (20%) and 4 day freight from the UK!
I now use my local VW parts counter - if the difference is <15% and the parts are in stock. I like having a good rapport with my local guy - though even he acknowledges it is a struggle to justify some prices.

I am tired of all the excuses of why parts are more expensive in Australia.
Distance - BS, the UK landed price with air freight < local counter price
GST - BS, I am paying UK VAT at 20% to simplify the process for my UK counter vs 10% GST
Turnover - BS, check out the number of UK dealerships, trade outlets and the close proximity of the continent. Competition is fierce in the UK.
